EUSJA study trip to ISTA, Austria

The Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) in Klosterneuburg on the outskirts of Vienna is a PhD-granting research institute. 

A science journalist who is a member of any EUSJA member association is eligible to register their interest. We strongly encourage early-career journalists to apply. 

Location

  • ISTA campus, Klosterneuburg (18 km from Vienna’s city center)

  • We are organising hotels with a discounted rate, successful applicants will be informed of these special rates
  • We cannot cover flights or trains to Vienna

Rough agenda

November 19

  • Evening: People arrive, possible informal visit to local museum

 November 20

  • Early morning: Greetings and general introduction to ISTA

  • Mid-morning: A tour of ISTA labs, interacting with postdocs, PhD students and PIs

  • Midday: Lunch

  • Early afternoon: A tour of the VISTA science education centre, which focuses on the technology making its way to society 

  • Late afternoon: Visit to Memorial Gugging, a cultural and memorial space on the ISTA campus, guided tour to Art Brut museum

  • Evening: Informal dinner in Vienna, where some other journalists or scientists could also join for networking.

  • Morning: People leave
